site.bta2022 H1 Proceeds from Excise Duties, Import VAT, Customs Duties 32.4% Higher than Like Period in 2021

Proceeds in the first half of 2022 to the Customs Agency from excise duties, VAT on imported commodities, customs duties and fines amounted to BGN 6.336 billion, or 32.4% higher than the like figure for last year, the Customs Agency said in a press release Monday. 

The figure accounts for 42.3% of the tax revenue to the state budget. 

At BGN 3.357 billion, proceeds from import VAT reached a historic high and for the time exceeded the threshold of BGN 3 billion. This is 64.1% higher than the like figure for 2021. 

Proceeds from customs duties grew by 79.6% to BGN 218.5 million. The figure exceeds the total proceeds of BGN 209.9 million from customs duties on an annual basis in 2020.

2022 H1 proceeds from excise duties totalled BGN 2.758 billion, up by 5.6% from the like figure in the preceding year. 

In June 2022 alone, the total monthly proceeds to the Customs Agency stood at BGN 1.265 billion leva, up by 42.3% from June 2021. 

June 2022 proceeds from VAT on imports reached a historic high of BGN 687.6 million, up by 80% compared to the figure for June 2021. 

June 2022 proceeds from customs duties too increased considerably, reaching BGN 39.5 million, or 66.2% more than in June 2021. 

Cash proceeds from excise duties in June 2022 totalled BGN 537.5 million, 11.5% more than in June 2021.

Preliminary data for July 2022 show that the total Customs Agency proceeds for the month will be 30% higher than in July 2021.
