This week, the Market Price Index (MPI), which reflects wholesale food prices, went up by 0.69% to 2.043 points. Until the beginning of August, the MPI did not increase for over a month, standing at values between 2.029 and 2.039, the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission reported Sunday.
The base level of the index of 1.000 points was set in 2005.
The price of hothouse tomatoes increased by 8.3% reaching BGN 2.48 per kg, and the price of hothouse cucumbers went up by 12.3% reaching BGN 2.10 per kg. The prices of potatoes on the other hand dropped to BGN 1.06 per kg. Carrots were sold at BGN 1.20 per kg – a decrease by BGN 0.11. Cabbage got more expensive by BGN 0.06, selling at BGN 0.88 per kg.
Apples were sold for BGN 1.42 per kg. Lemons’ price dropped to BGN 2.99 per kg. The price of peaches decreased by 3.4% to BGN 2 per kg, while apricots’ price went up by 6.8%, sold at BGN 2.37 per kg.
The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 2.1% and now trades steadily above BGN 10.00 per kg, at BGN 10.40 per kg this past week. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese was selling at BGN 15.64 per kg. Sunflower oil was unchanged at BGN 4.92 per litre, down by 1.8%.
Butter gained 4.1% to BGN 2.82 per 125 grams. The price of chicken went down by 0.3% and was selling at BGN 5.97 per kg. Sugar was traded at 2.28 per kg, BGN 0.05 cheaper than last week. Grade 500 flour went up by 3.1% to BGN 1.34 per kg. Rice was sold cheaper at BGN 2.73 per kg. Eggs were selling at BGN 0.27 a piece at the end of the week.
