The share of electricity produced by baseload capacities in Bulgaria's energy balance increased by 24.20% for the period between January 1, 2022 and August 7, 2022 from the same period of 2021, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) reported on its website.

The electricity generated by baseload power plants during the eight-month period amounted to 26,671,411 MWh in 2022 and 21,474,620 MWh in 2021.

Electricity production in Bulgaria increased by 16.30% for the period under review. Between January 1 and August 7, 2022, 31,716,424 MWh were produced, up from 27,270,750 MWh for the same period of 2021.

Domestic electricity consumption increased by 0.36% for the eight-month period, from 23,447,300 MWh in 2021 to 23,531,557 MWh in 2022.

ESO figures show that data indicate that the balance (export-import) of electricity increased by 114.07% between January 1 and August 7, 2022 from the like period of 2021. This indicator has been gradually decreasing since the beginning of 2022 but since then has regularly been above 100%.

The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network increased by 21.32% for the eight-month period, year on year. The RES share in the distribution network increased by 15.12%.

The electricity produced by hydroelectric power plants continued to decline, by 29.29% for the January 1 - August 7, 2022 period from the comparable period of 2021, ESO reported.
