The number of loans to non-financial corporations, financial corporations, households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) decreased by 0.6% on an annual basis at the end of the second quarter of 2022, while their amount increased by 12.5%, the Bulgarian National Bank reported here on Tuesday.

There were some 148,000 loans to non-financial corporations at the end of the second quarter of 2022, and they increased by 4.8% on an annual basis. Their total amount was BGN 39.669 billion, marking a 10.5% increase, year on year.

Financial corporations received 959 loans at the end of the second quarter of 2022, up by 12.3% on an annual basis and totalling BGN 5.478 billion (year-on-year increase of 15.1%). Compared to the end of the previous quarter, the number of loans to the financial corporations’ sector increased by 4.9%, while their amount went up by 7.9%.

At the end of June 2022, the number of loans to households and NPISHs decreased by 0.8% on an annual basis, reaching BGN 2.799 million. Their total amount went up by 14.8%, year on year, reaching BGN 31.111 billion. At the end of June 2022, the loans ranging from BGN 100,000 to BGN 250,000 took up the largest share (24.6%) of the total amount of loans to that sector.

At the end of the second quarter of 2022, the number of deposits of non-financial corporations, financial corporations, households and NPISHs decreased by 3.2% on an annual basis, while their amount rose by 9.6%. Non-financial corporations held some 615,000 deposits at the end of June 2022 (up 2.3%, year-on-year), totalling BGN 34.809 billion (an increase of 18.6%).

At the end of the second quarter of 2022, financial corporations held 7,000 deposits (up 2.6%, year-on-year). They amounted to BGN 3.606 billion, decreasing by 0.6%. on an annual basis.

Compared to the first quarter of 2022, the number of deposits held by financial corporations declined insignificantly, while their amount went down by 14.1%. At the end of June 2022, the deposits over BGN 1 million took up the largest share (87.7%) of the total amount of deposits held by that sector.

Households and NPISHs held BGN 67.640 billion on deposits at the end of June 2022, rising by 6% on an annual basis. Compared to the previous quarter of 2022, the total amount of deposits increased by 1.1%. At the end of June 2022, the deposits ranging from BGN 50,000 to BGN 100,000 accounted for the largest share (17.9%) of the total amount of deposits in that sector.
