site.btaBulgaria's Total Exports Increase by 41%, Imports by 45.2% in January-June

In the period January-June 2022, a total of goods worth BGN 45,748.5 million were exported from Bulgaria, which is 41% more compared to the same period of 2021, according to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute. In June 2022, the total export of goods amounted to BGN 8,700.4 million and increased by 51.8% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In the January-June period of 2022, a total of goods worth BGN 51,896.7 million (at CIF prices) were imported into the country, or 45.2% more than in the same period of 2021. In June 2022, the total import of goods increased by 58.2% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 10,186.8 million.

The total foreign trade balance (FOB export - CIF import) was negative in the period January-June 2022 and was worth BGN 6,148.2 million. In June 2022, the total foreign trade balance (export FOB - import CIF) was also negative and amounted to BGN 1,486.4 million.

Between January and June 2022, the export of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased by 33.9% compared to the same period of 2021 and was worth BGN 14,697.3 million. In June 2022, the export of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased by 54.5% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 2,999.3 million.

The import of goods into Bulgaria from third countries during the period January-June 2022 increased by 63.6% compared to the same period of 2021 and was worth BGN 23,118.9 million (at CIF prices). In June 2022, the import of goods into Bulgaria from third countries increased by 75.5% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 4,718.6 million.

The foreign trade balance (FOB export - CIF import) of Bulgaria with third countries in the period January-June 2022 was negative and amounted to BGN 8,421.6 million. In June 2022, the foreign trade balance (FOB export - CIF import) with third countries was also negative and amounted to BGN 1,719.3 million.

Trade with the EU

In the period January - May 2022, the export of goods from Bulgaria to the EU increased by 43.5% compared to the same period in 2021 and amounted to BGN 25,350.1 million, according to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute. In May 2022, exports to the EU increased by 72.4% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 5,788.2 million.

The import of goods into Bulgaria from the EU in the period January - May 2022 increased by 30.6% compared to the same period in 2021 and was worth BGN 23,309.6 million (at CIF prices). In May 2022, Bulgaria's imports from EU member states increased by 36% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 5,013.6 million.

The foreign trade balance (FOB export - CIF import) of Bulgaria with the EU during the period between January and  May 2022 was positive and was worth BGN 2,040.5 million.
