Applications for new RES facilities with a total installed capacity of 24,000 MW were submitted between 2019 and August 2022. This is the maximum peak which requires urgent and adequate planning of the future expansion of the electricity transmission system, said the Electricity System Operator after a working meeting with RES investors from Northeastern and Southern Bulgaria on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Energy and Water Regulatory Commission chair Ivan Ivanov and caretaker Deputy Energy Minister Elenko Bozhkov.
Installed generating RES facilities in the country have a total capacity of over 12,000 MW.
The discussion focused on the procedures for planning and implementation of the required investments for the development of the electricity transmission system and of the necessary infrastructure.
The Energy Ministry and the Electricity System Operator (ESO) have prepared draft legislative changes which guarantee the implementation of reforms envisaged under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
ESO Executive Director Angelin Tsachev said that plans to expand the national grid and the provision of the best technological conditions for connecting of new RES facilities should follow investor interest.
