Caretaker Minister of Agriculture Yavor Gechev opened the renovated fishing port in the northern part of old Nessebar, on the Black sea. The post now has a fish market with stall tables, a catch control room and an administrative office, refrigeration rooms, a checkpoint, a floating breakwater has been built for fishing boats and ships, etc.
The money for the renovation was provided by the European Union through the Maritime and Fisheries Fund. Nearly BGN 1,850,000 came from the state budget.
Minister Gochev said that funds are also available for the next program period, but pointed out that in most cases they cannot be spent. He said that it is important to have functionality and partnership with the municipalities, with the fishing organizations so that the funds are not just spent, but also produce results.
Gechev said that there is a delay in payments under the programme for the development of rural regions. He noted that there will soon be a comprehensive plan and restructuring of the various units as much as possible.
The opening of the renovated fishing port in Nessebar was also attended by the mayor of the city and the regional governor of the Burgas region.
The reconstruction of the site is implemented under the Programme for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries 2014-2020.
