The Market Price Index (MPI) of wholesale food prices dropped by 0.44% to 2.055 points this past week, after registering a rise the previous two weeks, the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission said on Sunday. For more than a month, until early August, the MPI practically remained unchanged, fluctuating between 2.029 and 2.039 points.

The baseline of 1.000 point was set in 2005.

The price of hothouse tomatoes dropped by 13.4% to BGN 2.07 per kg. Hothouse cucumbers gained 2.3% reaching BGN 2.27 per kg. Potatoes dropped by BGN 0.06 and now sell for BGN 1.04 per kg. Carrots sold for BGN 1,12 per kg - BGN 0.01 cheaper than the previous week. Cabbage sold for BGN 0.85 per kg - BGN 0.02 cheaper.

Apples dropped by BGN 0.10 to BGN 1.33 per kg. Lemons dropped by BGN 0.09 to BGN 3.09 per kg. Peaches this week traded at BGN 2.06 per kg. Watermelons went up by 10.4% trading at BGN 0.64 per kg.

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 5.7% and surpassed BGN 11 per kg, reaching BGN 11.05 per kg. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese was selling at BGN 16,16 per kg - 2.6% more expensive than the previous week. Sunflower oil was selling at BGN 4.96 per litre.

A 125 g pack of butter from cow's milk dropped by 2.5% and traded at BGN 2.74. Chicken added BGN 0.12 to BGN 6.07 per kg. Sugar was BGN 0.11 cheaper and sold for BGN 2.25 per kg. Type 500 flour traded at BGN 1.31 per kg. Rice went down by 2.9% to BGN 2.66 per kg. For a second week, the price of eggs BGN 0.29 apiece.
