The average monthly wage in Bulgaria increased by 13.4% in the second quarter of 2022, year on year, reaching BGN 1,730, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy said on Friday, reporting figures released by the National Statistical Institute.

The highest average monthly wages are paid in three economic activities: Information and communication (BGN 4,216), Financial and insurance activities (BGN 2,739) and Manufacturing (BGN 2,544). Compared to 2021, labour remunerations have increased the most in Sofia City Region (by 16,5%) and Gabrovo Region, Central Bulgaria (15%) and the least in Kardjali Region, South Central Bulgaria (2.5%).

The lowest paid employees are in three activities: Accommodation and food service activities (BGN 1,058), Other activities (BGN 1,185), and Water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (BGN 1,262).

Persons working under an employment and civil-service relationship reached 2.31 million by the end of June 2022, up by 34,400, year on year. The unemployed numbered 152,200 by the end of June, 30,700 or 16.8% fewer than in the second quarter of 2021.
