site.btaDirect Flights Sofia-Riyadh to Be Launched in April

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air is to launch direct flights from Sofia to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The flights will operate from April 2023 and are scheduled to be twice a week - on Thursdays and Sundays, the Sofia Airport press centre said on Saturday.

Earlier in August this year, the airport and Wizz Air had announced their joint plans to develop their presence here with a seventh aircraft based in Sofia. The press centre notes that this adds another 500,000 trips to and from Bulgaria's capital annually. From December, two new destinations will also be launched - to Hamburg and Stockholm, and flight frequency will also be increased on twelve of Wizz Air's most attractive destinations to and from the Bulgarian capital. 

"We continue to increase Sofia's air connectivity, this time to the Middle East, as part of our overall strategy. We are working on dozens of new routes with many airlines. We believe that air connectivity brings benefits not only to the airport and the airlines, but also to Bulgaria's economy and society," the airport's CEO Jesus Caballero was quoted as saying in the announcement.
