The Market Price Index (MPI) of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria rose by 0.20% to 2.060 points this past week.

It has been stable for over a month until August at about 2.029-2.039 points, the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission said on Sunday.

The baseline of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

The price of hothouse tomatoes dropped by 7.8% to BGN 2.02 per kg, hothouse cucumbers lost 0.9% to BGN 2.20 per kg. Potatoes slid by BGN 0.04 to BGN 1.00 per kg. Carrots lost BGN 0.07 to BGN 1.05 per kg. Cabbage gained BGN 0.02 and was selling at BGN 0.87 per kg.

Apples were selling at BGN 1.33 per kg. Lemons slid by BGN 0.19 to BGN 2.90 per kg. Peaches depreciated by 10.7% this past week, selling at BGN 1.83 per kg. Water melons traded at BGN 0.62 per kg.

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk gained 1.9% and crossed the BGN 11.00 threshold to BGN 11.07 per kg. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese appreciated by 1.6% and was selling at BGN 16.21 per kg. After a price decrease in mid-July, sunflower oil went down by a further 2.2% to BGN 4.88 per litre this week.

Butter dropped by 1.1% to BGN 2.74 per 125 grams. Chicken was selling at BGN 6.06 per kg. Grade 500 flour traded at BGN 1.31 per kg. Rice gained BGN 0.09 to BGN 2.75 per kg. Eggs went up by BGN 0.01 and were selling at BGN 0.30 each at the end of the week.
