In July 2022, Bulgarian residents logged 731,700 trips abroad, or 19.4% more than the number registered in July 2021, the National Statistical Institute reported on Monday.

Turkey topped the list of Bulgarian citizens' trips in July 2022, with 182,900 trips, followed by Greece (179,800), Germany (60,200), Romania (58,800), Serbia (38,300), Italy (26,400), North Macedonia (23,300), the UK (21,800), Austria (20,800) and Spain (17,700).

The largest proportion of trips that Bulgarian residents made abroad in July 2022 was for holidays and recreation: 44.5%, followed by trips for other purposes (as a guest, education and attendance of cultural and sport events), 37.7%, and for a professional purpose, 17.8%.

The 1,533,500 arrivals of visitors from abroad in Bulgaria in July 2022 were 24.2% more numerous than in July 2021. At 816,400, EU citizens' visits accounted for 53.2% of the total number of foreigners' visits to Bulgaria in July 2022. Within this number, visitors from Romania took the largest share, 25.5%, followed by Germany, 19.1%, and Poland, 11.0%. Visitors from other European countries outside the EU numbered 540,300, or 35.2% of all visits to Bulgaria. Most of these visits, 200,100 or 37.0% in this group, originated from Turkey.

At 538,500, transit passes through the country accounted for 35.1% of all visits of foreigners to Bulgaria.
