Bulgaria's general business climate index in August 2022 dropped by 3.4 points compared with July 2022, the National Statistical Institute reported on Monday. The business climate worsened in industry, retail trade and services, while the business climate in construction remained basically unchanged.

The index component describing the business climate in retail trade dropped by 9 points as a result of retailers' lower assessments and expectations concerning the condition of their enterprises. They are also pessimistic about their sales and supply orders in the next three months.

The index component describing the business climate in industry went down by 3.4 points. The assessments of industrial entrepreneurs about the current condition of their companies are quite reserved, and their expectations for the next six months have worsened. At the same time, the poll indicates lower security of industrial supply orders, coupled with pessimistic expectations about manufacturing activity in the next three months.

The index component describing the business climate in construction in August 2022 remained basically unchanged compared with July 2022. Construction entrepreneurs tend to describe business activity in their sector as favourable. They have revised up their forecasts for the next three months.

The index component describing the business climate in services decreased by one point due to company owners' pessimistic expectations about the condition of their enterprises in the next six months. Their opinions about current and future demand for services are also more reserved.
