General government’s gross external debt totaled EUR 7,028.9 million (8.9% of GDP), dropping by EUR 1,329.7 million (15.9%) from end-June 2021, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said on Tuesday.
Bulgaria's gross external debt amounted to EUR 41,495.9 million (52.5% of GDP) at end-June 2022, growing by EUR 1,647.3 million (4.1%) from end-June 2021 (EUR 39,848.6 million, 58.7% of GDP).
At end-June 2022, short-term liabilities stood at nearly EUR 8,068.1 million (19.4% of the total debt, 10.2% of GDP), increasing by 30.8% from this time last year. Long-term liabilities totaled EUR 33,427.8 million (80.6% of the total debt, 42.3% of GDP), down by 0.8% year-on-year.
BNB's external liabilities stood at EUR 2,101.1 million (2.7% of GDP), growing by EUR 1,271.4 million (153.2%) from end-June 2021.
The external liabilities of other monetary financial institutions totaled EUR 5,621 million (7.1% of GDP), increasing by EUR 1,418.9 million (33.8%) from end-June 2021.
Other sectors’ external debt equaled EUR 13,043.1 million (16.5% of GDP), growing by EUR 582.7 million (4.7%) from end-June 2021.
The stock of intercompany lending amounted to EUR 13,701.9 million (17.3% of GDP) at end-June 2022, decreasing by EUR 296 million (2.1%) from end-June 2021. It held the largest share in external debt, equating to 33% at end-June 2022, compared with 35.1% at end-June 2021.
