The Minister of Tourism, Dr. Ilin Dimitrov, held talks today at the Council of Ministers with the Mayor of Karlovo Emil Kabaivanov to discuss the possibilities for assistance and support to the Bulgarian citizens affected by the floods, the Ministry of Tourism said on Wednesday.

Minister Dimitrov told Mayor Kabaivanov that several business representatives have already started to help or are ready and looking for ways to do so. He has received inquiries and suggestions from representatives of the tourism sector who have expressed their willingness to help by providing mattresses, beds, and other equipment for the people whose homes were affected by the water disaster in the Karlovo area. There are also accommodation facilities that have expressed their willingness to accept and accommodate free of charge families whose homes are uninhabitable. A total of 348 houses were affected, the mayor of Karlovo said.

The Ministry points out that the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association (BHRA) has already made an appeal to its members to donate beds, mattresses, blankets and other furniture, to provide free temporary accommodation to those who have lost their homes and to those whose houses have been destroyed, to supply food products, and to provide hot food and drinking water.

The Ministry of Tourism expresses its sympathy for the distressed Bulgarian citizens and together with representatives of some of the largest industry organizations will do everything possible to support the victims and facilitate those willing to help with furniture and funds to contact the representatives of the local authorities and the affected people, the message said.
