Documents lost under the previous leadership of the State Consolidation Company (SCC) can cause a detriment of BGN 75 million to the state, it transpired at a news conference on Thursday by the company’s new leadership, as reported by the Economy Ministry. Facts show that the previous SCC Executive Director Smilyana Nitova had attempted to cover up the loss.
In 2018, the State, through the State Consolidation Company, purchased receivables of the Kemira company for BGN 25 million. Revenues for the State after their successful collection were expected to be BGN 50 million. On July 21, the SCC filed a financial claim worth approximately BGN 75 million against Kemira.
By July 21, all original documents were available at the SCC. However, the defendant challenged the authenticity of the documents. "This should have been a simple procedure in which the SCC is required to produce the original documents. However, it turned out that the documents were missing," said SCC Executive Ventsislav Dimitrov.
On July 6 2022, which is over three months after the court had requested the original documents, Nitova sent letters to her predecessors asking them to provide the original documents. "This is most likely a very awkward attempt at evading responsibility, although the timeline shows that the synchronicity between the misplacement of the documents and the action taken by Kemira took place under her tenure," said Dimitrov.
