site.btaPresident to Students: Today, Level of Communications Determines That of Public and Economic Development

Addressing students at the opening of the academic year at the University of Telecommunications and Post (UTP) in Sofia on Saturday, President Rumen Radev said that nowadays, the level of communications determines that of every country’s public and economic development. Today, success is measured with the speed and volume of the information exchanged, with its accessibility and security, the head of State noted. 

In his words, few higher education establishments can boast with a history like UTP’s, which is the result of Bulgarian statespersons after the Liberation from Ottoman rule realizing the need of training cadres in the field of communications. 

Radev congratulated the UTP on the new programmes created together with the Georgi Benkovski Bulgarian Air Force Academy and the medical universities in Plovdiv and Pleven. Among the new programmes are Telemedicine, Software Design in Medicine, and Communications Systems for Servicing Air Traffic. 

UTP Rector Miglena Temelkova noted that this is the 141th academic year opening at the University. She presented President Radev with a book about the UTP’s history and an icon.
