Inflation in Bulgaria in August was 1.2% month-on-month and added up to an annual inflation of 17.7%, the National Statistical Institute said.

It is 12.6% since the start of 2022.

The average annual inflation for the September 2021 - August 2022 period was 11.7% compared to this time a year earlier.

Inflation in July was 1.1% month-on-month and 17.3% year-on-year.

In August 2022, the prices of goods and services increased in the following consumer groups (compared to July):

Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels - an increase of 5.2%;

Miscellaneous goods and services - an increase of 2.3%;

Furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house - an increase of 1.8%;

Food and non-alcoholic beverages - an increase of 1.2%;

Recreation and culture - an increase of 1%;

Restaurants and hotels - an increase of 0.7%;

Communications - an increase of 0.7%;

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco - an increase of 0.3%;

Health - an increase of 0.1%.

The prices of goods and services decreased in the following consumer groups (August against July):

Transport - a decrease of 3.8%;

Clothing and footwear - a decrease of 2.3%.

Prices in Education remained unchanged from July.
