Deputy Tourism Minister Irena Georgieva took part in the 105th Meeting of the European Travel Commission (ETC) Board of Directors in Rome, Italy, her ministry said on Thursday. As a member of the Board with a term until the end of 2023, Bulgaria will take part in deciding important topics, issues and problems for the industry, accepting new members, approving the action programme and the budget.
The discussion focused on the recovery of the tourism sector in Europe under the motto “Results Summer 2022”, with each country sharing its positive results. For her part, Georgieva pointed out that the ministry’s efforts are aimed are aimed at tapping all opportunities for the recovery of Bulgarian tourism, and it is in constant contact with all stakeholders to achieve cooperation between institutions and business.
By the end of the summer season, Bulgaria achieved 80% of the results it had in 2019, Georgieva said. Its leading markets are Romania, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Great Britain and Israel, among others. However, continuing challenges before the sector in Europe should not be overlooked either, for peace is the fundamental condition for the development of tourism, she underscored. The continuing military action in Ukraine have an exceedingly negative effect on the tourist sector in Bulgaria.
Bulgaria is adapting to the international environment and the new trends, and the efforts of the Bulgarian tourism business are focused on each and every tourist, Georgieva said.
