The Market Price Index (MPI) of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria rose by 0.77% to 2.089 points this past week.

It has been moving within narrow margins for more than two months now between 2.029-2.089 points, the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission said on Sunday.$ There is a slight but steady increase of nearly 3%.

The baseline of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

Hothouse tomatoes traded at BGN 2.22 per kg, adding up 6.2%, while field-grown tomatoes appreciated by 1.6% to BGN 1.90 per kg. Hothouse cucumbers lost 4% to BGN 1.60 per kg. Green peppers lost 2.4% to BGN 1.60 per kg while red peppers traded at BGN 1.87 per kg. Potatoes traded at BGN 1.02 per kg. Cabbage gained BGN 0.02 and was selling at BGN 0.94 per kg. Carrots rose by BGN 0.04 to 1.04 per kg.

Apples were selling at BGN 1.34 per kg. Lemons traded at BGN 2.90 per kg. Peaches were selling at BGN 1.86 per kg. Water melons lost 7.4% to BGN 0.75 per kg.

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk lost 0.4% and was selling at BGN 11.04 per kg. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese appreciated by BGN 0.11 and was selling at BGN 16.35 per kg. Sunflower oil has been depreciating in the past few weeks and sold at BGN 4.74 per litre this week.

Butter traded at BGN 2.68 per 125 grams. Chicken decreased by about 2.3% and traded at BGN 5.88 per kg. Sugar sold at BGN 2.35 per kg. Grade 500 flour traded at BGN 1.34 per kg. Rice lost BGN 0.03 to BGN 2.71 per kg. Eggs were selling at BGN 0.30 each at the end of the week.
