The average price of electricity on the Day Ahead market of the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) reached BGN 720.29 per MWh (pre-VAT) by the close of business on Monday, with delivery day set on Tuesday, September 20. This compares with BGN 546.08/MWh registered on IBEX on Sunday, with delivery day set on Monday, September 19, meaning that the price of electricity for corporate clients increased by 31.90% in a day.
The average price of electricity during the peak-load hours (9 a.m. to 8 p.m.) is BGN 770.18/MWh. The average price during the off-peak-load hours (1 a.m. to 8 a.m.; 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.) is BGN 670.40/MWh.
The lowest price registered on Monday is BGN 508.71/MWh, effective for the time segment from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, and the highest is BGN 1,190.49/MWh, effective for 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A total of 76,751.30 MWh of electricity was sold via IBEX on Monday.
On the Intraday market, Monday's purchases amount to 3,092.40 MWh as at 4:15 p.m. The daily weighted average price by that time is BGN 571.14/MWh (pre-VAT).
When the National Assembly revised the 2022 state budget on June 30, it approved compensation payments to businesses to offset the high prices of electricity. The general rule is that the Electricity System Security Fund should pay non-household end-clients the difference between the average monthly IBEX price on the Day Ahead market for the respective month and the base price of BGN 250/MWh for the period from July 1 to December 31, 2022.
