Saturday's hurricane-force winds in Southeastern Bulgaria totally destroyed the grape harvest on 250 ha of vineyards near Pomorie, where the storm hit the strongest. Four teams of the regional Agriculture Directorate are assessing the damage, Deputy Agriculture Minister Todor Djikov said on Monday after a visit to the affected areas. State aid will be used to compensate vine growers for the damage. Djikov said that financing for the clearing work will be added to the rate at which the compensations will be paid.

Farmers whose vineyards were totally destroyed will be compensated under the scheme for compensations for produce damage caused by unfavourable climatic events equal to natural disasters. The maximum allowed support under the scheme is up to 80% of the actual costs for a crop during the year.
