Private investments in the Sofia-Bozhurishte Economic Zone, most of them foreign, topped BGN 610 million in the last 10 years, Economy and Industry Minister Nikola Stoyanov told European diplomats as quoted by his Ministry. He presented the investment opportunities in Bulgaria's largest state-owned industrial zone to representatives of the diplomatic corps.
The purpose of the first organized tour of the economic zone for diplomats was to showcase the conditions offered by state-owned industrial parks and the plans for their development.
Stoyanov explained that the Sofia-Bozhurishte Economic Zone houses manufacturers of automotive materials, parts and modules for packaging machines for the food, pharmaceutical and medical industries, telecom equipment, equipment for the military industry, biocosmetics and organic foods, among others. While most of the products are exported to the EU countries, many manufacturers have customers around the world.
The Economy Minister said that Bulgaria views industrial zones as a major opportunity to boost growth and attract new high value-added investments. "Now is probably the best time to invest in them because we can offer some of the best conditions alongside a state guarantee for their future development," he said.
The diplomats were shown around two major investments, by a Danish and a German company. The visitors talked with representatives of the foreign companies, who affirmed that Bulgaria offers very good, competitive investment opportunities.
The visit was hosted by National Company Industrial Zones (NCIZ) Executive Director Antoaneta Bares. With her team, she presented the stages of the investment process in the state-owned industrial zones and all NCIZ locations in Bulgaria.
