site.btaDeputy Environment Minister: SMEs Are Key to Green Transition

Deputy Environment and Water Minister Reneta Koleva said here Monday that small and medium-sized enterprises are key to the green transition and shifting the economy towards a circular model. Koleva spoke at a forum titled "SMEs, social economy enterprises, crafts and liberal professions: Opportunities and challenges of the green transition" organized by the European Economic and Social Committee and the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association in cooperation with media partner BTA.

Koleva said that a draft strategy and an action plan for the transition to a circular economy in Bulgaria - 2022-2027 will be proposed at a meeting of the Council of Ministers mid-October. The two documents are aimed at assessing and introducing incentives for more efficient use of natural resources, supporting enterprises in switching to new models and eco-production, as well as analyzing the possibilities of increasing the requirements for mandatory recycled content in certain product groups. The Deputy Minister stated that policy should focus on removing the barriers to adopting green and circular business models.
