The Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector has been granted a use permit for Greek territory, which allows its commercial operation to start on October 1, the ICGB operator said on Wednesday.

This is the last administrative step required for the legal commissioning of the interconnector in Greece.

Earlier in the day, an equivalent use permit was granted for the facility's operation in Bulgarian territory. Delyana Panayotova, head of the National Construction Control Directorate, presented the document to a representative of the ICGB, the independent transmission system operator which is responsible for the interconnector's commercial operation.

The interconnector will be commissioned with a formal event at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia on October 1.
