site.btaGross Government Debt Amounts to EUR 7.1 Bln at End-July, Down by 14.6% Y/Y

Bulgaria's general government gross external debt totaled EUR 7,150.7 million (9% of GDP) at end-July 2022, dropping by EUR 1,222.5 million (14.6%) from end-July 2021, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) reported on Friday.

The country's gross external debt amounted to EUR 42,071 million (53.2% of GDP) at end-July 2022, growing by EUR 1,548.7 million (3.8%) from end-July 2021.

Short-term liabilities equaled EUR 8,348.3 million (19.8% of the total debt, 10.6% of GDP), growing by EUR 2,082.3 million (33.2%) from end-July 2021. Long-term liabilities totaled EUR 33,722.7 million (80.2% of the total debt, 42.7% of GDP) at end-July 2022, dropping by EUR 533.6 million (1.6%) from end-July 2021.

At end-July 2022, 78% of gross external liabilities were denominated in euro, compared with 83.7% at end-July 2021.

The external liabilities of the central bank (BNB) stood at EUR 2,193.8 million (2.8% of GDP), growing by EUR 1,356 million (161.9%) from end-July 2021.

The external liabilities of other monetary financial institutions totaled EUR 5,680.9 million (7.2% of GDP), increasing by EUR 1,290.6 million (29.4%) from end-July 2021.

Other sectors' external debt equaled EUR 13,032.2 million (16.5% of GDP), growing by EUR 290 million (2.3%) from end-July 2021.

The stock of intercompany lending amounted to EUR 14,013.4 million (17.7% of GDP) at end-July 2022, decreasing by EUR 165.4 million (1.2%) from end-July 2021. It held the largest share in external debt, equating to 33.3% at end-July 2022.
