site.bta Fruit and Vegetables Appreciate at Start of October

The Market Price Index (MPI) of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria rose by 1.24% to 2.125 points this past week.

It has been moving within narrow margins for more than three months now between 2.029-2.125 points, the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission said on Sunday. The MPI rose slightly but steadily by nearly 4.8%.

The baseline of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

Hothouse tomatoes gained 15.64% and traded at BGN 2.70 per kg, while field-grown tomatoes appreciated by 4.4% to BGN 2.15 per kg. Hothouse cucumbers increased by 10.3% to BGN 1.92 per kg. Green peppers lost 0.6% to BGN 1.65 per kg while red peppers gained 6.3% and traded at BGN 1.90 per kg. Potatoes increased by BGN 0.04 to BGN 2.03 per kg. Cabbage gained BGN 4.7% and was selling at BGN 0.90 per kg.

Apples were selling at BGN 1.35 per kg. Lemons increased by BGN 0.09 to BGN 2.99 per kg. Peaches appreciated by BGN 0.23 this past week, selling at BGN 2.09 per kg. Grapes slid by BGN 0.06 and sold at BGN 2.06 per kg.

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk edged up by 0.9% and was selling at BGN 11.25 per kg. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese traded at BGN 16.47 per kg. Sunflower oil gained 2.1% and sold at BGN 4.80 per litre this week.

Butter traded at BGN 2.84 per 125 grams. Chicken increased by 4.7% and traded at BGN 5.88 per kg. Sugar went up by BGN 0.11 and sold at BGN 2.54 per kg. Grade 500 flour increased by 3.8% and traded at BGN 1.36 per kg. Rice lost BGN 0.17 to BGN 2.89 per kg. Eggs were selling at BGN 0.32 each at the end of the week.
