In August, there was an increase in turnover by 1% in the sector "Retail trade, except trade in cars and motorcycles" compared to the previous month at comparable prices, the National Statistical Institute reported. Data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted. Retail trade turnover increased by 2.1% compared to August 2021 on a calendar-adjusted basis.
In August 2022, an increase in turnover compared to the previous month was reported in all major groups: retail trade in food, beverages and tobacco products (by 6.5%), retail trade in automotive fuels and lubricants (by 1 .1%) and the retail trade of non-food goods, excluding the trade in automotive fuels and lubricants (by 0.5%).
A more significant increase in the turnover in retail trade of non-food goods, excluding the trade in automotive fuels and lubricants, was registered in the retail trade by mail, telephone or online orders (6.8%). A decrease was recorded in the retail trade of computer and communication equipment (2.2%), and the retail trade of textiles, clothing, shoes and leather goods (0.5%).
In August 2022, there was an increase in the turnover of the retail trade of automotive fuels and lubricants (by 7.7%) and the retail trade of non-food goods, excluding the trade of fuels and lubricants (by 4.4%), while a decrease (by 3.9%) was recorded in the retail trade of food products, beverages and tobacco products compared to the same month of 2021.
In the retail trade of non-food goods, except fuels and lubricants, a more significant growth was registered in the retail trade of textiles, clothing, shoes and leather goods (24.2%). Turnover decreased in retail trade with computer and communication equipment (by 5.6%), and retail trade with pharmaceutical and medical goods (by 0.5%).
