Speaking at the InteliFresh fruits and vegetables forum here on Tuesday, Guido Landheer of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality spoke about cooperation in the sector. Technologies and innovations are needed for a more sustainable agriculture, he said, vowing to work for this formula’s success in Bulgaria. “We’re not seeking fast returns, but long-term cooperation and this is not whether we’ll do it, but about what the next steps will be,” he said.

“We must work intensively to build a bridge between Dutch and Bulgarian agriculture and achieve a high-level green sector. Sustainability is a main topic for both countries,” he said, explaining that sustainable farming is important for reducing greenhouse emissions.

Landheer noted that “the world as we know it is changing and it’s not necessarily for the better. The challenges of our times cannot be addressed by a single country, but require international cooperation,” he said.

According to Landheer, Dutch companies and organizations working in Bulgaria are able and ready to transfer the right knowledge, technology and vision.

Guido Landheer has been Director of European, International and Agro-Economic Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality since 2019. Internationally, he functions as the Deputy Director General Agro.
