site.btaMinister Shishkov: Some 30 km of Trakia Motorway Need Overhaul Due to Violations

Trakia motorway’s section between Stara Zagora and Yambol (Southeastern Bulgaria) needs an overhaul due to violations during its construction, caretaker Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Shishkov said in an interview for bTV on Sunday. A check of this section, which is some 30 km long, was conducted jointly with the Interior Ministry to determine what type of repairs should be done, and the samples taken show part of the asphalt is missing.

In his words, a lot of asphalt is missing between Nova Zagora and Yambol, and this quick deterioration is the result of materials having been saved up during the construction process. The lab results on the quality of the materials used will be ready within ten days, he added.  

He expects that the next section of Trakia motorway will need repairs in 2023. 

Shishkov placed the blame for the violations on the construction supervision, investor control, and builders. 

The section between Stara Zagora and Yambol was unveiled in 2012.
