The trade balance for August is negative at EUR 191.4 million against a deficit of 233.6 million for August 2021, the Bulgarian National Bank said on Wednesday.
For January-August 2022, the trade balance is negative at over EUR 2.362 billion (3% of GDP) against a deficit of nearly EUR 1.377 billion (2% of projected GDP) for the same period in 2021.
In August, exports of goods were worth over EUR 4.032 billion, increasing by 1.202 billion (42.5%) compared to August 2021. For January-August 2022, exports stood at nearly EUR 30.893 billion (39.1% of GDP), growing by nearly 8.857 billion (40.2%) compared to that of the same period in 2021.
Imports of goods for August 2022 amounted to EUR 4.223 billion, up 1.160 billion (37.9%) from August 2021. For January-August 2022, imports were EUR 33.255 billion (42.1% of GDP), increasing by over 9.842 billion (42%) over the same period in 2021.
Foreign direct investment in the country (reported in accordance with the principle of the original direction of investment) according to preliminary data increased by EUR 138.6 million in August 2022, with an increase of 35.1 million in August 2021.
For January-August 2022, foreign direct investment in the country amounted to EUR 1.064 million.
Foreign direct investment for August 2022 increased by EUR 6.3 million, compared to an increase of 29.7 million for August 2021. For January-August 2022, direct investment abroad increased by EUR 226.1 million (up 134.2 million for January-August 2021).
