site.btaIT, Communications, Outsourcing Faced with Major Staff Shortage - Expert

There is a major staff shortage in the IT, communications and outsourcing sectors, Svetlozar Petrov, CEO of the JobTiger Ltd. HR services company, said on Thursday. He opened the 13th edition of the annual Career Days: IT, Communications and Outsourcing job fair in the Black Sea city of Varna.

In Petrov's words, the staff shortage in these three sectors in Bulgaria is of the order of tens of thousands. The issue in these industries goes beyond high salaries as skills and qualifications are key, he said. Currently, the labour market is a candidate's market where the number of vacancies is outweighing the number of qualified people looking for any job, including low-skilled jobs.

Demand is huge everywhere, Petrov said.

He does not expect the upcoming crisis to reduce staff demand significantly.

There is more to the staff shortage than the demographic crisis. Business is growing - in fact, this is the good news - more and more products are being made in Bulgaria, and that is what generates the big shortage, Petrov said.
