Bulgarian caretaker Energy Minister Rossen Hristov took part in a meeting of EU energy ministers in Luxembourg on Tuesday. Speaking at the forum, Hristov said that the hydrogen market is still young and the EU should provide the most flexible conditions for its development, considering the individual specificities and potential of each Member State. "This is the only way to stimulate a rapid development of production, consumption, and trade", he stressed.
"Once we see how the market actually develops, we will be able to discuss more specific regulations that will allow us to absorb its full potential," Hristov said.
According to him, there is untapped potential in energy efficiency in buildings in Bulgaria. In Hristov's words, energy efficiency in buildings provides an opportunity to save carbon emissions and stop being dependent on fossil fuels, including imports from Russia. However, buildings in Bulgaria are relatively old and their retrofitting would require considerable financial resources, the Energy Minister explained.
