site.btaTourism Ministry Prioritizes Development of Wine Tourism

The Tourism Ministry prioritizes the development of specialized types of tourism such as cultural tourism and its subtypes, the most important of which is wine tourism, said Deputy Tourism Minister Mariela Modeva at the opening of the first international professional conference dedicated to International Mavrud Day in Sofia on Wednesday. She said that these goals have been set out in the Ministry’s strategy for advertising Bulgaria as a sustainable destination and a recognizable brand.

“The International Mavrud Day is a cause, a celebration and a wonderful initiative recognized by the whole wine industry. I believe and I hope that it will be something more, a development in the right direction and the establishment of a national brand for Bulgarian wine,” said Ivailo Katerski, chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Wine Professionals, which organizes the event.

In an address to the forum Agriculture Minister Yavor Gechev expressed his conviction that Bulgaria has a wealth of prospects to develop wine tourism.
