Bulgaria's wholesale food price index rose by 0.6% in the working week from October 24 to 28, reaching 2.179 points. Wholesale food prices have been increasing steadily over the last few months. They have grown by more than 7%. Year on year, they have gone up by 32%. The base index level of 1.000 point was registered in 2005.

In the working week between October 24 and 28, the average wholesale price of greenhouse-grown tomatoes dropped by 7% to BGN 2,65 per kilogramme. Tomatoes grown in open fields were selling at BGN 2.35/kg. The average wholesale price of greenhouse-grown cucumbers rose by 11.0% to BGN 2.33/kg. Green peppers went up by 4.3% to BGN 1.69/kg, while red peppers gained 7% to sell at BGN 2.30/kg.

Potatoes went up by 1.9% to BGN 1.07 per kilogramme, carrots went down by 1% to BGN 1/kg, and cabbage was still traded at 0.96.kg.

Apples depreciated to BGN 1.32/kg. The price of lemons decreased by 0.7% to BGN 2,82/kg. Peaches went down by 5,9% to BGN 1,90/kg, and grapes fell by 2.8% to BGN 2.07/kg.

The average wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow milk grew by 0.3% to BGN 11.43/kg. The price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type went up by 1.1% to BGN 17,25/kg.

During the week in review, the price of sunflower oil decreased by 2.1% to BGN 4.65/litre. In Sofia, sunflower oil was selling at between BGN 3.80/l and BGN 5/l wholesale in a plastic bottle. In the southeastern town of Yambol, it was traded at between BGN 5/l and BGN 5.70/l, and in Haskovo, Southern Bulgaria it could be bought for a wholesale price of BGN 3,85/l and BGN 4.10/l.

The price of a 125-gramme packet of butter from cow milk could be bought for BGN 2.75. Chicken fell by 0.7% to BGN 5.73/kg. Sugar was selling at an average of BGN 2.54/kg wholesale by the end of the working week.

The average wholesale price of type 500 flour was BGN 1.42/kg. In the southern city of Stara Zagora it cost between BGN 1/kg and BGN 1.10/kg, in Shumen, in the northeast, it cost between BGN 1.50/kg and BGN 1.60/kg, and in Vratsa, in the northwest, its price averaged BGN 1.02/kg. Rice traded at BGN 2.92/kg wholesale on average. Eggs cost BGN 0.34/piece towards the end of the working week.
