site.btaBansko Mayor: National-Level Action Needed for Tourism Industry’s Sensitivity to Changes

Tourism is a sector of the economy that is particularly sensitive to negative changes, Bansko Mayor Ivan Kadev said, speaking at a forum hosted by the mountain resort on Thursday. The event is organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

Establishing a name and authority is a long process of constant and hard work, and recovering lost positions is difficult, Kadev pointed out, adding the challenges Bulgaria and the world in general faced over the past few years with the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the ongoing energy crisis and rising inflation. 

Serious and coordinated action at national level is called for to meet all these challenges, Kadev said, and participation in fora like the present one is necessary and valuable.

For its part, in order to deal with the problems and preserve tourist business, Bansko municipality has ensured a safe environment in hotels and restaurants.

The active tourist seasons were extended with the addition of new events and the expansion of traditional ones. This winter, too, Bansko will again host world-level sports events, Kadev said.

Among the participants in the Thursday forum are Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov, representatives of local authorities, heads of organizations in the tourism business and mountain resort managers, educational institutions in the field of tourism, and the news media.
