The road linking the southwestern towns of Blagoevgrad and Bansko will be completed in December, Bansko Mayor Ivan Kadev said at Thursday's meeting on "BG TOURISM – WINTER 2022/2023" organized by BTA. The prospects of Bulgarian tourism in the coming winter are discussed in the mountain resort of Bansko.

Local business representatives said at the forum that the continuing repairs of the road to Bansko would not do the resort any good in the coming tourist season. A fully repaired road and infrastructure, for which the local authorities have worked hard in recent years, would be a good advertisement of the resort.

Kadev said road works in the past week had been going on round the clock and would be completed by mid-December at the latest. Without repairs, that stretch of road would have been completely dilapidated by the spring.

Kadev also said the road linking Bansko and the Vihren chalet in Mount Pirin, located at 1,972 metres above sea level, would also be repaired, probably by mid-summer.

The mayor stressed the importance of infrastructure to a tourist region. "We spared no effort to improve it with government support in the last three years. This support is much needed because the municipalities cannot cope with the problem on their own," he said.
