site.btaBulgarian Export to EU Up 44.6%, Import 33.3%, Jan.-Aug., Y/Y

Bulgarian export to the EU increased by 44.6% in January-August 2022 compared to the same period of 2021 and amounted to BGN 41.678 billion, while imports of goods from the EU increased by 33.3% and reached nearly BGN 38.7 billion, the National Statistical Institute said Thursday. The data are according to the Standard International Trade Classification.

The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece, France, and Spain, which accounted for 67.1% of Bulgaria's exports to the EU Member States.

The highest growth in export to the EU compared to 2021 was recorded in the sectors "Mineral fuels, oils and related products" (295.2%) and "Animal and vegetable fats, oils and waxes" (168.6%).

A decline was observed in the sector "Non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages and tobacco" (13.9%). The largest increase in imports of goods from the EU was recorded in the "Animal and vegetable fats, oils and waxes" sector (152.8%). 

Exports to the EU increased by 45.9% in August 2022 compared to the same month of 2021 and amounted to BGN 5.159 billion, while imports increased by 36.4% and amounted to BGN 4.740 billion.
