"Bulgarian Posts" is operating at a loss, said caretaker Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Transport and Communications Hristo Alexiev, who is also the company's principal, during Friday’s question time in Parliament.
From the parliamentary rostrum, Alexiev presented data according to which, as at June 30, Bulgarian Posts has realised revenues of about BGN 105 million, and incurred expenses of about BGN 130 million, which means that the national postal provider is at an accounting loss.
The figures for the first nine months also confirm the trend. As at September 30, the company had revenues of around BGN 155 million and losses of BGN 196 million.
The losses registered in the first nine months of 2022 amounted to BGN 41,685,000, Alexiev said.
Among the reasons cited by the caretaker deputy prime minister are the negative impact of the cyber attack on the company in April, high electricity prices, the external services it uses, and remuneration costs.
Minister Alexiev's was answering a question from BSP for Bulgaria MP Georgi Svilenski, who pointed out that Bulgarian Posts is one of the largest state-owned enterprises, covering and serving more than 5,200 settlements and employing 8,633 employees.
