The St. Cyril and St. Methodius Secondary Art School in Vidin us to become the first building in the Danubian city – and the region – to meet energy class A+ standards, its principal, Bisserka Kamenova, told BTA. A considerable portion of its energy will come from renewable energy sources and the heating – from a geothermal installation under a Vidin Municipality project approved under the the Energy Efficiency in Buildings Procedure supported by the EEA 2014-2021 Financial Mechanism under the Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Energy Security Programme.
The project, one of 16 approved under this procedure. worth a total of BGN 2,46,278 will be funded by a 100% grant. The project proposal is aimed at the complete energy transformation of the school building from conventional to highly effective, to be achieved by energy-saving measure allowing a considerable reduction of heat loss.
The 360 kW geothermal heating installation will be complemented by a photovoltaic one to cover own energy needs, as well as with systems for energy storage, monitoring and management. All this will mean 90% of energy coming from renewable sources and turning the building into the first Energy Class A+ in the city and the region.
