The Market Price Index (MPI) of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria rose by 1.13% to 2.219 points this past week, nearly reaching its historic peak of 2.222 points in the beginning of May this year, the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission said on Sunday.
The baseline of 1.000 points was set in 2005.
Hothouse tomatoes gained 19% and traded at BGN 3.25 per kg. Hothouse cucumbers increased by 6.1% to BGN 2.60 per kg. Green also gained 10.1% to BGN 1.85 per kg while red peppers gained 3% and traded at BGN 2.38 per kg at the end of the week.
Potatoes increased by 4.5% to BGN 1.16 per kg, while carrots dropped by 3% to BGN 1.03 per kg. Cabbage stepped down by BGN 0.02 and was selling at BGN 0.93 per kg.
Apples were selling at BGN 1.32 per kg. Lemons dropped by 5.9% to BGN 2.80 per kg. Grapes slid by 7.1% and sold at BGN 1.97 per kg. Oranges also dropped by 2.7% to BGN 2.35 per kg, while the wholesale price of bananas was BGN 2.86 per kg.
The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk edged up and was selling at BGN 11.46 per kg. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese added 0.9% and traded at BGN 17.28 per kg. Sunflower oil dropped by 2.6% and sold at BGN 4.50 per litre this week.
Butter traded at BGN 2.80 per 125 grams. Chicken increased by 4.4% and traded at BGN 6.12 per kg. Sugar sold at BGN 2.54 per kg. Grade 500 flour traded at BGN 1.44 per kg. Rice lost 2.4% to BGN 2.84 per kg. Eggs were selling at BGN 0.34 each at the end of the week.
