Sofia Airport said here on Sunday that it is launching a tender procedure for conceptual and technical designs for the renovation of Terminal 2.

The selection procedure will be carried out in two stages. For the initial selection, all interested parties can register their interest and submit the relevant documents published on the Airport’s website. This can be done until 15 December, as the capital’s airport has given more time to allow a wider range of interested participants to take part.

Bidders will then be invited to submit their offers no later than 23 December. The total contract value will be announced once a contractor has been selected.

The reconstruction of Terminal 2 is part of a strategy for a five-star passenger experience, but also a step to improve efficiency and direct all passenger traffic from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. A completely new Terminal 3 will be built and commissioned by 2030, radically changing the face of the airport.

The concession agreement for Sofia Airport was signed in July of 2020 between the Bulgarian Government and SOF Connect, a consortium including France's Meridiam Eastern Europe Investments S.A.S. and Austria's Strabag, with Munich Airport as airport operator.

The Airport's operator recently announced a large-slcale investment programme worth over BGN 1.2 billion, of which close to BGN 140 are scheduled to be invested in the first five years.
