site.btaMarket Price Index of Wholesale Food Prices Hits Record High

The Market Price Index (MPI) of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria rose by 1.58% to a record high 2.254 points in the week beginning November 14, way beyond its historic peak of 2.222 points registered in early May this year, the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission said on Sunday.

The baseline of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

Hothouse tomatoes gained 4.1% and traded at BGN 3.28 per kilo. Hothouse cucumbers increased by 6.9% to BGN 2.78 per kg. Green peppers gained 2.7% to BGN 1.87 per kg, while red peppers rose by 9.2% to BGN 2.60 per kg at the end of the week.

Potatoes appreciated by 1.7% to BGN 1.13 per kg, carrots rose by 2.9% to BGN 1.07 per kg, and cabbage was selling at BGN 0.93 per kg.

Apples gained 1.5% and were selling at BGN 1.32 per kg. Lemons dropped by 1.1% to BGN 2.70 per kg. Grapes slid by 5.9% and sold at BGN 1.91 per kg. Oranges lost 1.3% to BGN 2.34 per kg. The wholesale price of bananas was BGN 2.83 per kg.

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk edged up by 0.5% and it was selling at BGN 11.55 per kg. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese gained 2.9% and traded at BGN 17.62 per kg.

Sunflower oil dropped by 0.7% and sold at BGN 4.50 per litre this week.

Butter gained 2.5% and traded at BGN 2.87 per 125 grams. Chicken increased by 0.2% to BGN 6.10 per kg.

Sugar lost 2% and was selling at BGN 2.48 per kg at the end of the week. Grade 500 flour lost 2.8% and traded at BGN 1.39 per kg. Rice lost 0.3% to BGN 2.86 per kg.

Eggs gained 5.9% to BGN 0.36 a piece at the end of the week.
