Gross external debt amounted to EUR 43,950.3 million (55.6% of GDP) at end-September 2022, the Bulgarian National Bank said on Tuesday. It grew by EUR 2,832.4 million (6.9%) from end-September 2021 (EUR 41,117.9 million, 57.9% of GDP).
Short-term liabilities equalled EUR 8,527.2 million (19.4% of the total debt, 10.8% of GDP), growing by EUR 2,189.9 million (34.6%) year-on-year. Long-term liabilities totalled EUR 35,423.1 million (80.6% of the total debt, 44.8% of GDP) at end-September 2022, growing by EUR 642.5 million (1.8%).
General government’s gross external debt totalled EUR 8,375.1 million (10.6% of GDP), growing by EUR 79.5 million (1%) from end-September 2021.
The external liabilities of the central bank stood at EUR 2,111.9 million (2.7% of GDP), growing by EUR 228.7 million (12.1%) from end-September 2021.
The external liabilities of other MFIs totalled EUR 5,942.9 million (7.5% of GDP), increasing by EUR 1,550.9 million (35.3%) from end-September 2021.
Other sectors’ external debt equalled EUR 13,055.5 million (16.5% of GDP), growing by EUR 726.9 million (5.9%) from end-September 2021.
The stock of inter-company lending amounted to EUR 14,465 million (18.3% of GDP) at end-September 2022, growing by EUR 246.4 million (1.7%) from end-September 2021. It held the largest share in external debt, adding up to 32.9% at end-September 2022, compared with 34.6% at end-September 2021.
