Amendments to the Energy Act are being drafted to introduce a definition of "energy poor", Bulgarian caretaker Deputy Prime Minister for EU Funds Management Atanas Pekanov said during a discussion on energy poverty and prices, organized here on Thursday by the Bulgarian Socialists Delegation at the European Parliament.
In Pekanov's words, the revision will establish the criteria and procedures for verifying the energy poor status. This will unleash all future energy-efficiency and energy-allowances policies, which will thus be clearly targeted and can be put to the best use.
The Deputy PM added that a commission has been formed with the Consultative Council on the EU Green Deal tasked mainly with drafting amendments to the Energy Act and an ordinance introducing a definition of energy poverty and the manner in which it will most appropriately applied and verified.
The Commission has elaborated an energy poverty definition based on a methodology developed with the help of scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Pekanov specified that the draft amendments to the Energy Act that contain the definition are being finalized.
