site.btaFood Sales via eBag.bg Have Not Decreased in 2022 Despite High Inflation

The online supermarket eBag.bg has not experienced a decline of food sales in 2022 despite high inflation. On the contrary, the company expects its annual turnover to increase by 40% this year and to reach BGN 60 million, eBag.bg founder and CEO Ivan Alexandrov said. The challenges associated with the economic recession have a stronger impact on consumer decisions about non-foods rather than foods, Alexandrov added.

Consumer interest in this online supermarket's services has increased in December and orders have intensified as the holidays draw near. The company expects to handle over 2,000 orders on an average day.

Between January and November 2022, eBag.bg has fulfilled almost 500,000 customer orders for foods and household use articles. This implies an increase by over 30% compared with a year earlier. The company has supplied more than 12.5 million articles to its customers' doorsteps so far this year. Fruit and vegetable supplies stand at 2,200 tonnes.

The main products for a traditional Bulgarian Christmas Eve dinner this year are expected to cost BGN 60.83 per household. The estimate is based on the following list of products offered by eBag.bg: 0.5 kg of dry common beans, 1 kg of sour cabbage, 0.5 kg of rice, 0.2 kg of dried peppers, 0.5 kg of flour for bread (pitka), 0.5 kg of dough sheets, a pumpkin, stewed dried fruit, spices (cinnamon, spearmint, baking powder, savory, parsley, green and red peppers, salt, 100 g of garlic, 1 kg of carrots, 1 litre of sunflower oil, 100 g of walnuts and a bottle of Bulgarian red wine.

The top 20 products most in demand by eBag.bg customers in December 2022 are eggs, bread, potatoes, yogurt, milk, butter, white brined cheese, bananas, yellow kashkaval cheese, onions, bottled water, tomatoes, carrots, kaima minced meat, toilet paper, cream, cucumbers, olives, sugar and mayonnaise.

An eBag.bg customer's typical order consists of an average of 28 articles and is worth BGN 120. The product which is most often sold by this online supermarket is bananas, followed by potatoes and cucumbers.

The platform eBag.bg, in partnership with DarPazar.bg, offers Christmas tree toys, candles and other items carrying the Christmas spirit made by persons with disabilities, at risk or with special needs. One hundred per cent of the revenues from these articles will go back to the social care organizations where they were made.
