In the first eight months of 2022, the export by Bulgaria’s chemical industry grew by 45% and amounted to BGN 7.2 billion, caretaker Economy Minister Nikola Stoyanov said here on Friday. He was attending the marking of 25 years since the privatization of the biggest sodium factory in Europe, Solvay Sodi in Devnya.
Some 13,000 people work in this sector, the Minister also said.
A huge share of the chemical industry’s export is generated by Solvay Sodi, Stoyanov noted. The factory in Devnya makes big investments in various projects directed at reducing the carbon imprint. The enterprise is a good example of sustainability and will remain among the world leaders in the 21st century, he said.
Asked about the investments made in Bulgaria this year, the Minister said that politicians are trying to exploit the topic, but the exact figures will become clear in March 2023 at the earliest. In his words, there is no point in commenting on the matter until then, but investors’ interest in Bulgaria is very high.
