site.btaSecondary School Pupils Invent Eco-Friendly Snow-Melting Road Surfacing
Schoolchildren of the Robotics Club at the Panayot Volov Secondary School in Shumen have developed a surfacing solution that keeps roads snow-free.
The news will certainly be welcomed by motorists and road maintenance, who struggle with the problem whenever the network gets snowbound.
The paving block they propose is made of concretå mixed with metal shavings and graphene. This makes the material a non-hazardous conductor of electricity. The block is heated by electricity produced by solar power, which prevents the water from freezing. A sensor activates the system when the air temperature drops below 3 C.
Larisa Martinova of the Club told Nova TV that the solution is fully applicable to asphalt and can thus be used on roads countrywide.
