site.btaCabinet Approves Draft Letter Supporting Construction of Egypt-Greece Electricity Interconnection

The Council of Ministers approved a draft letter of support for the construction of an electricity interconnection between Egypt and Greece (GREGY). The project aims to provide transmission of 3,000 MW of green energy generated in Egypt from renewable energy sources.

The Egypt-Greece electricity interconnection project is fully in line with the European Union's green energy transition strategy. Its implementation will contribute significantly to preventing climate change and to achieving the objectives of the Green Deal.

With the adoption of today's decision of the Council of Ministers, the project GREGY is expected to help increase the cross-border transmission capacity of the electricity grid at the border between Greece and Bulgaria, which will promote regional trade in electricity.

The GREGY interconnection project is crucial for increasing security of supply in the region and for the transition towards a cleaner energy mix and a zero carbon economy.
