More than 42,000 insured persons benefited from the National Social Security Institute's (NSSI) prevention and rehabilitation programme in 2022, and 60% of them were women, the NSSI said on Friday.

The prophylaxis and rehabilitation activity funded by the NSSI was being implemented even in the face of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and 2021. After the two crisis years, there has been an upward trend in the number of people benefiting from the programme, the NSSI reported. In 2022, they are about 5,000 more than the previous year.

Of those who underwent prevention and rehabilitation, those with diseases of the musculoskeletal system (71.41%) and the peripheral nervous system (22.66%) accounted for the largest relative share.

When stratified by age, the highest relative proportion was among those aged 51 years and over (72.08%), which corresponds to the higher incidence of disease for this age group. The proportion of those aged 31 to 50 years was second with 27.07%. The relative proportion of those under 30 years of age who went through the programme was not significant at 0.85%. Of those who benefited from the cash assistance, 61.03% were women.

The analysis of the NSSI presents the main dynamic indicators of survivor's allowances for the period 2017-2021, as the data shows that these are the most numerous allowances paid under the Social Insurance Code.
